Directions

  1. Mix 3 parts peat and 1 course sand

  2. Add 1 tablespoon of peroxide to 1 cup of distilled water

  3. Mix soil in a bowl with distilled water until soil is damp

  4. Add soil to your choice of pot. Only fill the pot 3/4 so there is room for your seedling to grow.

  5. Microwave your soil filled pot for 2-5 minutes. The amount of time depends on your microwave’s power. The idea is for the soil to become steaming hot. This process sanitizes your soil and pot to prevent algae growth during germination. If you do not have a microwave…then boil your water on a stove and add carefully to your bowl of soil while you mix. Then add to your pot after it has cooled down.

  6. Let cool completly down. This usually takes 10 minutes. Test the temperature by touching the soil to see if it’s cool to the touch.

  7. Carefully open the folded paper that contains the seeds and sprinkle onto the soil in the pot.

  8. Cover the top with cling wrap. Use a rubber band to hold the cling wrap on.

  9. Set a tray on top of a heating matt. Keep the heating Matt on 24/7

  10. Set in a tray and fill with plain distilled water until the water level covers 1/4 of the bottom of the pot.

  11. Put under lights.

  12. Keep the water tray full. Leave the pot untouched for 3 weeks. After that…check on the progress of your seeds once a week.

  13. You will notice tiny glistening traps after your seeds have germinated. It is very important to feed your plants after they have germinated. Use a tiny paintbrush with a fine point to feed the traps. Be careful to not let any food come in contact with the soil! (We sell food specifically made for Drosera and are perfect for seedlings)

  14. Tip: use a magnifying glass when applying food to small seedlings. It makes life so much easier.

  15. The best time to transplant your seedling is when they have reached the top of the pot and are beginning to touch the cling wrap. Do not do it any sooner. Use your standard Drosera soil mix (We sell soil specifically designed for petiolaris complex and is designed to help aid in water absorption for seedlings with tiny roots)

  16. Slowly acclimate your seedlings to your personal growing conditions (harden off). Most importantly the humidity.
